Prince EA Speaks on Society’s Official Labels As the Real Cause of Division
–
Much of my work is centered around helping people overcome injustice and marginalization. Everyone from those with special healthcare needs to those who live in poverty as well as many in between bring tears to my eyes when I see discrimination and injustice. As a black woman I too have been treated poorly simply because of the color of my skin, like last week when I was closely followed around a store for no reason at all other than potentially shopping while black. The funny thing is I am often confused for Dominican when I go to the salon to get my hair done or asked by some who are quite brazen whether or not I am mixed as in half white and half black.
Recently I stumbled upon another great video by Prince EA. If you don’t know who he is, you’re missing out on a lot. His YouTube channel is on fire with all of the great videos he has speaking out on the woes of the world and justice for all where he encourages others to THINK! He is a speaker and musician who, from his work seems to simply wants to make a difference so people learn to live on this earth together the best way we can feeling like we all matter. His latest video I Am Not a Label speaks about race and the labels society puts on us to separate us as if we are not the same – the human race.
The funny thing about all of this is that we all are mixed! We all have some variation of ethnicity yet people still see discriminatory practices simply because one person’s skin tone is darker or even lighter than another. Some look at women as inferior and just as they do men who aren’t considered by society’s standards as the alpha male. The elderly are looked at in some people’s eyes as useless, not intelligent or simply in the way. The LGBTQ community is still fighting for their rights to simply have love just like any other human wants want and not be treated differently because of it.
When will it all end? Or will it all end? Based on history the need to be the superior or dominant in society is one that has simply been part of the human condition and most agree it will never disappear. That it is quite possible we will be stuck with some form of human desire for dominance over others, my question is can we at least minimize it to a point that we aren’t harming or killing people simply because of our differences? We all deserve and have the right to live safely in any society!
Black, Brown or White, I am human. Black, Brown or White I live and breathe just like you. Black, Brown or White I pay bills, eat, have a family regardless of structure and work just like you. If we want to continue to make decisions based on labels, let the labels of difference be those we put on foods, clothes and cars when we choose which is better over the other – not people.
Yet another removed …. I guess there is a lack of interest for a “conversation.”
Of course it was m’d … kept a copy just in case
