Indian anti-Rape and free speech voices are trending at #IndiasDaughter
The BBC released a documentary about a violent and tragic gang rape in India. Today the government has asked YouTube to block the documentary in India. YouTube has done so.
The outcry against the blocking of this video inside India is growing. Add your voice by Tweeting #IndiasDaughter but please be respectful of the rights of Indians to lead this conversation.
The BBC documentary India’s Daughter is a harrowing look at the mindsets that drive a culture of rape in India. These mindsets exist worldwide, but to hear them spoken with such cold indifference will change your mind about what women face daily across the world. If you wish to view this triggering and challenging video you can find it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9W6WrShqKGE …At least, for the moment.
Men are also the victims of domestic violence and rape. We know this to be true. But today, here, right now, we are talking about the women of India and the world, and the threat of violence and rape they face daily.

The rapists have no remorse. Why? The ban IS the why , a country’s refusal to question that lack of apology and remorse. #IndiasDaughter

In India – Mob Breaks Into Prison Breaks Out Rapist and Drags Him Into Street
http://threepercenternation.com/2015/03/graphic-mob-breaks-into-prison-breaks-out-rapist-and-drags-him-into-street/
John and Tom. Let me ask you a simple question. How many rapists have been dragged out of their cells and attacked in India vs. how many women in India have been raped and murdered? 10 rapists vs. five million women? Ten million women? Every year? You need to understand that 99.9999999% of rapists in India are never arrested because the police simply don’t care. They believe that women out at night, women with jobs, women in general deserve to be raped because they are not good women. Your position here is tragically misinformed. You are worried about rapists? Really?
@ Mark Greene I can’t speak for Tom, but I agreed with your article. I recognize though there may be legitimate reasons for blocking it or even for blocking it temporarily. Something that I don’t think was even considered. Police responded to the killing of the ACCUSED rapist by establishing a curfew. Do you have an issue with that? Why not? Do you think it will be permanent? Do we really want to live in a society where the ACCUSATION of rape carries a certain death sentence? A lot of people in prison today are being raped. You know why… Read more »
Thanks, John. All of what you say may be correct on some level. I don’t deny it. But I’m focused on the ongoing problem of rape and women in India, not an extended discussion of one man who may have committed rape. How is it that you have posted twice here about justice for one man, when millions of women are victims of rape. You are focusing on one man. One man. Why? Not only is rape not a death sentence in India, 99% of the time its not even equal to a parking ticket. Seriously. So, thanks, but this… Read more »
Mark, What I’ve come to realize is that it’s sometimes hard to discuss rape with some people in a nuanced way so discussions about rape and something else will always boil down to rape at least when it pertains to female victims. For example we could talk about rape and prison guard restrictions. Limiting employment opportunities at least for men would never be factored into the equation (ie I suspect few would object to only women working as guards in women’s prisons, but I suspect you’d get more push back if you suggested only men working in men’s prisons) to… Read more »
There might be legitimate” concerns that it could spark vigilante justice like with the story below,
“”A rape suspect was pulled out of a jail and lynched by a mob in northeastern India on Thursday, local reports said,”

I do agree with you. Censorship is usually the wrong way to go. Silencing is not the way to ensure protection and due process rights for the accused. Holding the criminals who killed him responsible is.
