I’ve known Joe as long as I’ve known my wife, which is more than a decade. He’s at my house most weekends at some point to watch a game, share a meal, or tell a story. His partner Jo-Ann and my wife are best friends. They met completely by random on vacation in the Caribbean years ago only to realize they lived a couple blocks apart in Boston and both had grown up with strong moms outside NYC (my wife’s Italian and Jo-Ann’s is Jewish).
On paper Joe and I probably would never meet, he’s a retired information systems guy from Somerville and I’m some kind of finance moron who, as Joe likes to point out, must have “a printer in the basement churning out hundred dollar bills.”
But over the years we become very close. Joe is one of those guys that has made his fair share of mistakes (like me and every other human being on the planet) but deep down you can see he is solid. A guy who I love for being so brutally honest and funny and good. He’s the kind of guy you can hang out with and feel completely relaxed around. He is who he is and he makes it okay for you to be who you are, warts and all.

I envy you Tom. Friends like Joe are a real blessing!
