The person who appears to have their life all together likely is the same person who struggles the most.

No One Understands
Bianca Lopez
You won’t understand till you walk in my shoes. All you see is a happy young girl who hides her problems with a huge smile on her face. Someone who thinks that everything will be okay but in reality it’s just a broken glass! Every time I hang out with friends, at some point they talk about how their brothers take them places and do other things for them that brothers should do. It always makes me feel empty inside. I want that sister and brother bond, that brotherly advice. I want to have that brother who I can run to about problems I can’t tell anyone else. But the thing is, I won’t have that for another 23 years.
I don’t blame my brother for his mistakes, but I’m disappointed in him for not being a brother to us.

I’ve always dreamed that he would be here by my side when I walk the Class of 2015 stage. What hurts the most is that every time I see my little sister, Daisy, I picture him, and I always fear that one day she will follow in his footsteps and end up just like him. I don’t blame my brother for his mistakes, but I’m disappointed in him for not being a brother to us. I always see his friends roaming around streets as if they have not a care in the world. While they kill, threaten and manipulate people, my brother is in prison for something he didn’t even do! All they do is cause problems for our family.
My brother’s friends don’t care who they hurt so long as they get what they want.

I come from a family that brings violence and trust issues to each other. I come from a place where jealousy and betrayal develops, where when anything happens, the cops are involved. I come from a place where I’m too scared even to walk outside because you never know what could happen between Corning and Hervey Streets. My brother’s friends don’t care who they hurt so long as they get what they want.
So I have something for you. Don’t ever tell me that I don’t know anything about the gang life, the prison system or anything of that world, because trust me, you won’t understand till you walk in my shoes.
