Honesty is the best policy, right? Right?

Ok, we’re supposed to be honest when looking for a mate.
But it seems like it’s become standard practice to lie on online dating sites, to the point where we’re no longer shocked that someone lied…we’re more concerned over how much and about what.
As this video points out, there are some lies that we should be able to see right through. Let’s call the the cliché lies. The old standards. We know what they look like and sound like.
But do we really want our dating websites to be “warts and all”? Or do we want some sort of illusion? Who do you know that takes a dating site picture when they just got out of bed or same in from the pool?
If everyone is only putting their best selves forward, is that lying, too?

That puts honest people in a dilemma! If people know everybody lies in theor dating profile they will expect it and take all given data with a grain of salt. E.g. women might read any man’s stated height and subtract a couple of inches. That puts me in a spot: If I am 6′, should I lie and say I’m 6’2″, because I know that if I am honest women will assume I’m only 5’10”? You can be honest and still get dates, you should have to have a little bit of perspective. If you’re a guy that has no job, lives in his parent’s basement and has no plan in motion to change that, you probably owe it to everybody else to disclose that. But, if you are actively working on changing that I’d just leave it out. Being honest isn’t the same thing as giving people a laundry list of reasons to dislike you.
