Rudy Garcia was expected to become a doctor or a lawyer, but found his early calling in punk rock and new wave music.
—
Rudy Garcia the the last of eight children, the first to go to private school, and the one expected to be the high achiever-a doctor, or maybe a lawyer. But he found Sassy Mgazine, the music of bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and Bikini Kills, the feminist messages and culture that went with them, and knew he had found his place. His family never understood or valued what he did, but he published zines, planned festivals, interviewed his idols, and finally came out to them.
This is his story of accepting himself and finally finding acceptance and love among his family.
