Whether you’re divorced, widowed, or never married, it can be challenging to be single for the holidays. Christmas and Chanukah may be over, but New Years’ Eve is coming up. There’s way too much of what I call ‘Hallmark Holiday Pressure’ to feel ‘wrong’ or sad about not being happily coupled at this time of year.
I say, “Bah, Humbug!” to all those who think that singles can’t be happy around the holidays.

Happiness is an inside job. It starts with you. You have a lot more control over your state of mind than you might think, whether it’s the holiday season or not. Following are my five best tips for staying happy and sane no matter what time of year.

1. Don’t look for happiness outside yourself.
2. Tell your gremlins to take a hike.
3. Keep a list of the good in your life.
4. Live in the present.
5. Be positive and ditch the negative energy.
