Chris Thompson was moved to outrage by the hate parents showed when their son came out. And he was moved to tears when he asked his friends, ‘If you could choose … ‘

I don’t understand what it’s like to go through the coming out process, because I’m straight. But this goes so far beyond whether you’re gay or you’re straight. This is a human issue. No human should be treated the way this person was treated.
We know that being gay is not a choice, though the parents who reacted hatefully and violently to their son’s coming out don’t seem to think so. We featured the video of the parents’ horrific response to their son’s announcement last month, and now Chris Thompson, a straight man with a lot of LGBTQ friends, has shared the heart-warming reactions of his friends and followers when he asked, “If you could choose to be gay or straight, what would you choose?” The first half of the video summarizes the backstory. At 3:09, he starts reading his friends’ answers. Thompson also asked if being gay is a choice, and received a resounding, “No.” Perhaps the best tweet of all came from @purekatherine: “The only way it’s a choice is whether or not to be true to yourself.”
The story of Thompson’s video also appeared on BuzzFeed.

What a disgusting family. Who would do that to their own child?
I just want to hug him. What a great ally.
J.L., Yes. He seems to be a truly beautiful person.
