Teen heroine Aero Girl avenges her father with the help of a super powered gorilla. Yes, It’s as awesome as it sounds!
The Adventures of Aero-Girl by the talented team of Dewayne Feenstra, Axur Eneas, Adam Wollet and Juan Pablo Riebling is a terrifically fresh take on Golden Age comics. A charming, nostalgic book that harkens back on early comic heroes without the angst, darkness and sexist turns many recent comics have taken. The team has a clean, pleasing art style and the clever stories deal with loss and self-identity. Whether you are a long time reader of Golden Age comics or someone who is looking for something you can safely share with your kids, The Adventures of Aero-Girl is a fun and captivating book the entire family can enjoy!
Here’s a Sample of First pages of Adventures of Aero-GIrl issue 1, written by Dewayne Feenstra, colors of Juan Pablo Riebeling and lettering of Adam Wollet:
When we are first introduced to Jacqueline Mackenzie, aka Aero-Girl, she’s the daughter and trainee of the sworn protector of Foxbay, Battle Jack. Her goal of one day taking over for him and accepting all the powers and responsibilities that come with the Battle Spirit (the source of Battle Jack’s powers) is hampered by the tragic loss of Battle Jack at the hands of his nemesis the evil Dr. Chimera and Jack’s Battle Spirit is lost. Racked with guilt over her father’s death, Jacqueline contemplates retiring Aero-Girl. The appearance of Jak-Jak, the gorilla who has somehow absorbed her fathers Battle Spirit, pulls her out her doldrums and together they seek to bring her father’s killer to Justice.
Jacqueline’s journey will take her through accepting the devastating loss of her father (and its effect on her and mother’s relationship), to learning to deal with a partner that has stolen her destiny, and finally finding her place in Foxbay as both Aero-Girl and Jacqueline. Long time readers of All Things Geek know I’m always on the hunt for kid-friendly, female-positive comics. This book fit the bill nicely, its sharp, well-drawn and has loads of heart in telling Jacqueline’s / Aero Girl’s story. With only a few more days left for their campaign, I highly recommend contributing, following the development of The Adventures of Aero-Girl and look forward to the release of future issues.
