Jacob Laukaitis discovered a massive abandoned hotel in Bali and spent hours exploring it.
___
I was driving my motorbike around the island almost every single day. On one of those rides, I stumbled upon this massive hotel on the side of the street and it looked too fascinating not to explore.
I’m able to have a very basic conversation in Bahasa Indonesia – there’s never a problem to tell a little about myself, inquire for prices, buy/sell things, ask for directions etc. However, I’m very far away from being fluent (but I will be eventually). If one doesn’t speak Bahasa Indonesia while vacationing in Bali, it’s not a big problem since the island is quite touristy and many locals speak at least a little bit of English.
Most of the locals told me I shouldn’t go explore the hotel, because the place is full of ghosts and haunted souls. I don’t really believe in that stuff, so I just went ahead and spent hours exploring the place. I won’t lie – sometimes it did feel quite freaky, but that made it all the more exciting.
It felt as if the hotel was working properly just yesterday, or a few days ago, and had been shut down just before I arrived – there’s marble everywhere, bars, massive halls, rooms equipped with toilets and bath-tubs. I could only imagine how magnificent the place would have been had it been opened.
I wanted to see as much as possible. Go to every corner of the building, explore every room, go on the roof etc.
