Exposure to violence leaves physical marks on the brain that can impact children’s mental and physical health for the rest of their lives.
–––
Almost 1 in 2 girls and boys worldwide experience physical violence before the age of 8.
This infographic brings together some of the evidence that now exists to prove that violence has a real physiological impact on the brain of a growing child beyond the harm that an individual act of violence might immediately cause. What makes this so important is we can now see that by failing to prevent violence in the lives of children, both as victims and as witnesses of violence, we are failing to give them a real chance to achieve their full potential in life.
WithoutViolence is a project to accelerate the impact of violence prevention advocates and practitioners to improve the lives of boys and girls around the world.
