To start off our new feature, ‘The Visual Conversation,’ illustrator and parent Judy Clement Wall takes us inside her teenage boy’s room. Does anything look familiar?

Editor’s Note: Some might consider the teenage boy to be his own species—post-child, pre-man, a bundle of joy and frustration wrapped into one. If you have a teenage son, you know what we mean. In our new graphic feature, “The Visual Conversation,” acclaimed illustrator Judy Clement Wall will be creating thought-provoking and resonant images that relate to the issues we discuss on The Good Men Project. Allowing your teenager to become himself, embracing his interests, accepting his level of disorganization, and keeping your sense of humor are all aspects of healthy parenting. We encourage readers to build on “The Visual Conversation” with an actual conversation in the comments.

Ha! Instant perspective. Thanks, Tom.
We have four sons and three have always slept in the same room, bunk bed with trundle. The eldest has moved out and the youngest has move in. Take that great photo and multiply by three, add in a fish tank, shin guards, rumpled ties (school ties) and an octopus-like tangle of charger cords and you have our boys’ room.
