In an attempt to see what people know about others’ traditions, BuzzFeed asked Christians to explain Hanukkah and Jewish people to explain Christmas.
In a surprise to NOBODY in our Christian narrative-dominant society, the Jews did great and knew all sorts of stuff but the Christians were mostly embarrassing in their ignorance.
How would you fare?
Quite enjoyed that. @daneli. I read your reply with an inquisitive mind. Why do you feel that just because there are more Christians than Jewish people where you live that is an excuse not to be informed about our world and who lives in it?
I was raised Roman Catholic. My Mum was not and promised we would be raised as such. She also made an effort to ensure we knew about and visited other places and ways of worship.
Cheers.
am I supposed to feel some Christian or dominant-culture guilt because the majority of people in western societies have Christian background and therefore Christian holidays are more well known. And the fact that Christianity by its nature is more evangelizing than Judaism has ever been and as a result there are more Christians globally should have something to do with the predominance of Christian cultural memes.
