5 Morehouse Students Crush Black Male Stereotypes
–
Perusing social media it’s amazing how many videos you see that have no substance. Between the video taped fights and ridiculous challenges it all becomes a blur most of the time. And sadly, there are so many stereotypes about young black males that I often get frustrated trying to show people that there are plenty of young men with goals and dreams to be more than just a wanna be sports figure, rapper or dropout.
Fast forward until today when I ran across a video from Morehouse School of Medicine an HBCU featuring 5 young black men discussing the dreams they had from a young age to become doctors. While wide ranging stereotypes would still have many believing young African American males go to college only to pursue sports, these kids took 3 minutes to kick the stereotypes in the proverbial ass. Dressed like your average young college student, it’s obvious these young men have had dreams far beyond just being average since they were kids. What a great way to show people that you can take your education seriously and still have fun. After all, intellects know how to have fun too!
Nothing more inspiring than a young, proud, articulate back man. I grew up with some that I called friend, served with others that I called brother.
To know where they came from, the obstacles they’ve faced, to where they are now should be an inspiration to us all, white, black and every color of the rainbow in between.
