Here’s a really interesting infographic about the different ways that men and women use social media. I don’t care much for the title “Battle of the Sexes” I dislike how often society pitches everything as a fight. It is so divisive–we don’t want to be locked into some kind of gender war! Title aside though, there’s some facts I found really interesting.
The most surprising stat to me was that more people are using social media in US than in Japan. I thought the Japanese were really plugged in. I have to wonder if there are some Japanese-specific social media sites that didn’t factor into this infographic.
Google + has a 64% male user base.
Linked In seems like it is fairly balanced with male users coming in at 54%.
Of course no surprise that 67% of adults are on Facebook–even my grandpa is on there these days. I also had a bit of a chuckle about how 8 in 10 women say their Facebook friends annoy them (I can relate!)
What do you guys think do the numbers seem fairly accurate? Anything surprise you here?
I really prefer Twitter to Facebook, as I’m on Twitter on and off throughout the day, and only use Facebook for boring work stuff. My guy is more active on Facebook and can’t stand Twitter; we both watch way more than an hour of YouTube though, so not sure what that says about us!
Hahah do you watch together or separate?
“Do you agree?”
I didn’t know you could disagree with statistics? Be an exception, or point out the standard deviation perhaps. But disagree with it?
Oh you can disagree with statistics and people quite frequently do. I never asked if you agree though just curious if anything came as a surprise or if the stats lined up with someone’s personal experiences.
Ok, I’m sorry Danielle. The “Do you agree?” question was from the subtext on the first page, but I guess you didn’t write that.
No, no big surprises. It would have been interesting to see the “average time spent on different social media” divided for gender though. 🙂
Ah, crappy infographics ruin the facts once again. You seem to have misread the part about Japan. What the infographic (poorly) says is that there are more social media users in the US than there are people (in general) in Japan. This doesn’t really mean anything useful, just a poor attempt at quantity comparison.
Exactly what I was thinking. The US is 3 times the size of Japan. Having more people on social media than the population of Japan says nothing about Japan, it is just a number. That and the idea that the Japanese love technology is not true. The young in Japan are more likely to have allot of gadgets and love tech but it is not unusual to find company CEOs that do not even know how to switch on a PC or own a mobile phone. Something almost unheard of in the US. All but the most out of date… Read more »
