“Los Angeles is 72 suburbs in search of a city”
-Dorothy Parker
Los Angeles is a rather sad place. So depressing. So many homeless people. So many empty places and shallow faces.
Yesterday I was walking in downtown LA in the jewelry district and I witnessed a quick smash-n-dash robbery. LA is random anarchy and completely different from the organized chaos of the city it is often compared to which is of course New York.
As a bald-headed Black man who weighs well over 200 lbs I felt an unease walking through the streets of downtown LA that I haven’t recalled since my adolescence traveling through the grimiest areas of Brooklyn or the Bronx. To add insult to disrespectful injury it was only 3:30 in the afternoon when I was engaging in my exploratory stroll.
The disparity between the haves and have-nots seems so large in the city of Angels. Comparing the Hollywood hills and the concrete jungle plains or the western beach-front properties and the eastern inland residences one can that the differences are staggering. I’m not a sociologist or expert social scientist so everything I am saying is anecdotal. I admit that I may be completely incorrect in my assessment.
In my own personal opinion if I were some kid from a small town in middle America I’m not sure I would choose Los Angeles to pursue my dreams of stardom, success and fame. I would probably head East.
I prefer walking cities. Towns, villages and hamlets where I can meet and greet my fellow city inhabitants in the joint exploration of the ever abundant treasures of this place we all call home. I may not be rich monetarily but my wealth of experiences is just as valuable.
I can’t wait to land in my beloved city.
I love you New York.

despite that, hope you enjoyed ur stay
I did enjoy seeing the city but more importantly I enjoyed seeing good friends. If I could move my west coasts homies back east I definitely would. But thanks for the hospitality Los Angelenos. Much obliged.
