Emmy Award-winning chef, author and TV host Anthony Bourdain supports marriage equality in the latest video from the Human Rights Campaign’s “Americans For Marriage Equality” campaign.
I’ve been an Anthony Bourdain fan for years.
He’s at turns been profane, brilliant, mean, angry, enlightening, thoughtful, in-your-face, and not afraid to be wrong.
He has also, unwaveringly, unapologetically, in everything he’s written, been supportive of gays. He’s called kitchens “the last meritocracy”, where what matters – to him as a cook, chef, employer – is if a person can get the job done. He was casually writing about gay couples in the restaurant business when the current marriage equality battle was revving up.
Now he’s joined other notables including Susan Sarandon, Colbie Callait, and Demi Lovato, and Tony Hawk in supporting marriage equality.
In his HRC video, Bourdain makes this statement:
“A common thread of the people I admire – whoever they are, wherever they are – are people who are proud and do things with love, and feel a sense of responsibility to others. What sensible person could be against that?”
