A lot of attention is given to the big, bad words. But what about the other slights and insults that kids hear everyday?
I think, or at least hope, that by now many adults (and hopefully kids) have gotten the message that words that are insulting or demeaning to others are not ok. But the focus seems to be on a few big words. Those need to go, for sure. But what about the other everyday slights that happen in class, on the playground, in the hallways? Just because they don’t make the headlines doesn’t mean they don’t hurt, too.
If you heard these words said in front of you — or worse, to you — would you take a stand?
This video is from the UK, with Sir Ian McKellan narrating. You might not know the meaning of every word, but the intent is clear. And no one should have to suffer that.

Well done video…love Sir Ian Mckellan’s voice…my secret fear was that my son would grow up exposed to the racial slurs that I heard growing up on the summer camp bus…luckily for him, he has made lots of friends, of various ethnic backgrounds, and has had no problems at all…I think he is more resilient that way than I was at his age…words hurt…hearing those words still sting…I am glad my son has lots of friends, including ones who look like him….it is a great social cushion…it is terrible to feel singled out…
