You would have thought being the founder of The Good Men Project I would have seen this video. But I hadn’t. It took my daughter, a senior in high school, coming home from a speech-writing class where they had all watched Tony Porter as homework to tell me, “Dad I saw this really cool video and thought of you. You should really watch it.”
And so, if you haven’t I would recommend you watch it too.

It might be inspiring for youth growing up in a gangland thug culture, but I can’t relate to this guy.
Yes, I’ve seen this TED talk before and I cannot relate to him either. My experience and evolution have been the opposite of his. I grew up in a middle class post-feminist world in England where the messages filtered down to me, especially by the media, were very pro-woman. I also grew up with the narrative that as it related to men and women, men were the oppressors and women the innocents. I’ve seen this and posted it before. What I love most about him is his authenticity. His honesty about his past and his own emotional and psychological evolution is both heartbreaking and enlightening. Thanks for putting it up.
