A Fathers Song: ‘Ana Grace’

A moving tribute to a lost child.

In 2009 Tenor Saxophonist Jimmy Green released his Mission Statement album which contains the song titled Ana Grace. This is a wonderful and uplifting song written from a father to a daughter, which seems to express the love and tenderness of a parent and the beautiful energy of a child all in one composition. This piece is all the more moving now, 3 years after its release because Mr. Green’s daughter Ana was one of the casualties at the Sandy Hook Elementary School mass murder this last Friday.

The Jazz section of the Ottawa Citizen reported that Mr. Green made this statement on his Facebook page,

Thank you for all of your prayers and kind words of support. As we work through this nightmare, we’re reminded how much we’re loved and supported on this earth and by our Father in heaven. As much as she’s needed here and missed by her mother, brother and me, Ana beat us all to paradise. I love you sweetie girl.

Our hearts go out to Jimmy Green and his family, and all the families grieving for lost loved ones.
