I believe several of the more recent big shooters–Loughner included–passed a background check.
As it happens, some life insurance companies even think marriage counseling indicates an underwriting issue. No reason to think the feds won’t take that up as a hot idea, preventing one from owning a gun.
Of course, as in the states without shall-issue, being friends with the sheriff–which usually costs something in terms of old bills–can overcome many obstacles to gun ownership.
And Missouri just broke its own law by sending the feds their state registration of CCW.
Well I have had depression, I’d hate to not be able to own a gun because I was once depressed. Or is it mainly for the mentally ill to the point they are a danger? Violent tendencies, etc?
