Home of The Masters Golf Tournament Finally Adds First Female Members

Jamie Reidy comments on the historic Augusta National Golf Course’s adding women.

ESPN.com reports that for the first time in its 80-year history, Augusta National Golf Club has female members.

The home of the Masters, under increasing criticism the last decade because of its all-male membership, invited former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina financier Darla Moore to become the first women in green jackets when the club opens for a new season in October.

Hey, bachelors out there: here’s yet another reason that the single former Secretary of State is a total catch!

GMP readers, did you ever NOT watch The Masters because of the course’s exclusionary policy?

So one of the biggest non-stories in gender relations is finally settled.

I didn’t quit watching the Masters because of it. Why would I? They’re a private organization. If they want to be all-male they have that right.

The only real question I have now is this: will they put in new tee boxes for the women members?

    Go, Condoleeza!
