This is a pretty powerful and compelling argument for why we need to focus more on social justice. Ideas like permanent disenfranchisement for convicted felons are abhorrent, and when you have a system that is skewed towards making felons — particularly of minorities — we have a recipe for a cycle of poverty and crime and a dwindling number of people who will be willing and able to do anything about it. I think the way Bryan Stevenson framed the whole argument was so incredibly compelling, and when he talked about the older man walking in to support him in court… wow.
