Jamie Reidy reacts to the news that soda may have some negative effects.
The WUSA reports that the Center for Science in the Public Interest is claiming a possible link between Coke and Pepsi and cancer.
Citing studies that link several types of cancer to a chemical in caramel coloring, the head of the CSPI told 9 News that jeopardizing people’s health simply to give colas their familiar brown hue is just not acceptable.
First of all, don’t ever invite any “public interest” people to a party. #WetBlanket
But, this “news” is shocking how? I mean, car guys use Coca-Cola to remove rust from rims. Think that same sugary treat might be able to disrupt a little cell division in your body?
(Unrelated note: great line in a recent episode of HBO’s “Eastbound and Down.” Kenny Powers, the selfish but funny prick who has been comically stuck with his baby boy, watches the one-year old puke all over his buddy’s car. KP says, “I think his body is reacting to the Pepsi.” Classic.)
I have far greater concerns than cola and cancer, like reading some new report that Jack Daniels – my preferred pairing with Coke – has been linked to alcoholism.
That kind of news could make a man turn to the bottle. Know what I mean?

Cancer also cause cancer.
Oh wow. These were not the comments I was expecting. Seriously, only Jamie and I were expecting news like this? So unrelated, but somehow fascinating, I wanted to search whether Coke could dissolve a penny (that’s what my 7 year old said, and you know they’re always right), so I started to type into Google, “Does Coke…” and you know how it starts filling in for you? The first thing it filled in for me was “Does Coke expire?” (which is a good question, and I’d like to know the answer). The second thing was “Does Coke Make You Skinny?”… Read more »
Wow. 10 out of 10 to the comment above me. I aM 25 and as a youngster grandparents and teachers encouraged me to watch the news (Also to read newspapers, which was mostly boring and pointless). You’d always hear on an upcoming commercial for the news, like 10 mintues before it’s start time, “Also, tonight…A new study shows a link between cancer and (INSERT PRETTY MUCH ANY HARMLESS IN SMALL DOSES FOOD ITEM HERE). Tune in at 6 and we’ll tell you more about it.” So yeah, I watched crap like this ad nauseam forever until my teens when I… Read more »
“The WUSA reports that the Center for Science in the Public Interest is claiming a possible link between Coke and Pepsi and cancer.” CSPI is a hack advocacy group. Their argument about the link between Coke and Cancer is crap. But if you buy it than you stop eating and drinking everything because everything contains carcinogenic chemicals including most natural foods. For instance, coffee contains 19 different chemicals known to be rodent carcinogens. So you should stop drinking coffee which is much more carcinogenic than coke due to the roasting. And stop eating most fruits and vegetables which also contain… Read more »
Organic foods are highly carcinogenic? What is your source on that?
