Dr. Lisa Kaplin explians, “Children with body image issues are far more likely to struggle with depression or anxiety and have problems with peer relationships.”

Being a parent is difficult, being a parent of a child who struggles with body image issues, an eating disorder, or obesity is even harder. Fathers often don’t realize how important they are to the body image discussion for both their sons and daughters. What used to be believed to be a woman’s issue is now very much an issue that involves all family members. Research shows that a healthy relationship between father and daughter improves a girl’s chances of higher self-esteem in all areas throughout her life. Other research reveals that fathers also play a significant role in their son’s body image. Talking to your children about these issues can be confusing and difficult, particularly if you’ve struggled with an eating disorder or body issues yourself. Fathers, won’t you join us for this informative, and important teleclass?
I’ve invited body image expert and author, Marci Warhaft-Nadler to join me for a free teleclass for parents and caregivers on Wednesday, July 24th, 12:00 p.m. CST. This teleclass will provide you with solid, simple advice on how to talk to your children about their bodies, food, and exercise and how to recognize the signs of an eating disorder. We will also discuss how to handle peer pressure around body image and food, how to help your children make healthy yet fun food choices so that they learn the concept of balance early on. Children with body image issues are far more likely to struggle with depression or anxiety and have problems with peer relationships. Now is the best time to step in and help your child to feel better about themselves immediately, regardless of their weight or body type. Instead of fearing this delicate conversation, Marci will give us some tips on how to approach your child and have a safe, open discussion with them now and in the future.
