Good Men Project Names Noah Brand New Editor-In-Chief

The Good Men Project is pleased to announce that Noah Brand will be taking on the role of Editor-In-Chief, officially starting Monday, March 12th. Noah hails from the website “No Seriously, What About the Menz?”, which states, “Who cares about men? We do.”

Noah has been editing since he was 16, has been a strong contributing writer to the Good Men Project over the past months. Noah will work on strengthening The Good Men Project brand through the core values of a male perspective, pure storytelling, and provocative yet thoughtful debate. Part of Noah’s vision revolves around taking the current assumptions society holds about men and challenging them one by one.  Lisa Hickey, publisher of The Good Men Project and CEO of Good Men Media, Inc., also notes that entrepreneurship and community-building, are “in his blood”, in fact, Noah’s father had built the very first online community ever, The Well. “We are building a new type of media company,” says Hickey. “A community of men focused on an international discussion about what it means to be a good man in the 21st century. That task requires an editorial leadership that is passionate, courageous and strong, and I look forward to all that Noah can bring to help us move forward.”

Noah adds, “I want to make the Good Men Project the primary voice for issues of men and masculinity in our culture.”

The Good Men Project was founded in 2009 by Tom Matack. It has grown to a multi-media, multi-platoform social movement, with goodmenproject.com as its hub. The Good Men Project website currently gets 1.3 million pageviews per month and reaches people in 242 countries around the world. Noah joins over 450 writers and contributors, along with an editorial and blogging staff that includes Jamie Reidy, Joanna Schroeder, Justin Cascio, Marcus Williams and Jackie Summers.

  1. Lol. He’s barely on board and already my comments are “awaiting moderation”. He certainly doesn’t waste any time.
Now, sure, he might not be the one doing that, it might be nobody as sometimes the systems sends false positives or perhaps I did step over the line. But how would I ever know? I mean, last time he never told me why or even warned me about being banned completely. No chance to explain or take back just ban.
That’s the problem when you shut down discussions. You also shut down trust and that can’t just be redeemed so easily. Noah has a reputation for shutting down discussion and that won’t just go away simply because you tell us that it’ll be different here.

    • ADI, I’ve emailed you directly asking for a dialogue and am waiting on Lisa’s approval as we usually don’t approve comments immediately that attack the site. In addition, we only have volunteers running moderation and so we don’t always get to see what’s in queue until time has past. Feel free to email me or Lisa if you have additional concerns and I’ll talk with Lisa and get your comment approved.

  2. I see a lot of back and forth regarding whether Noah Brand is a Feminist, or whether he hates MRA’s, whether he’s a bigot, whether he’s anti-male. Apparently the majority opinion is that he’s a “stranger in the house”.

Frankly, I’ve been reading Noah’s article at NSWATM for over 2 years, and I’ve yet to see him make a controversial opinion not already made by the rank and file of the MRM time and again, including MRAs.

And for the record, I take issue with MRAs trying to co-opt the movement in the comments… Ya’ll aren’t the only group who cares about men. Some of us are just regular ol’ Masculists.

But that aside. I think it’s kind of big of Noah to sit on the sidelines while people happily debate his character flaws with impunity after he’s signed-up, willingly, to be the new target of your disappointment with this site. To which, I must ask, if any of you are so unhappy with TGMP, then why have you continued commenting here? If this place is a Feminist haven, then how is it your voices are still being heard, and indeed flooding these comments?

Ahh, I digress… I respect Noah, even when I disagree with him. Moreover, I’ve seen him argue in good faith. (Unlike Marcotte or Schwyzer, or even Futrelle.) Rarely have I ever seen his tone anti-male, and mostly because he constructs Masculinity differently from me. So if that’s a hanging offense, then we’re all gonna swing.

As for me, I’m curious to see what Noah brings to TGMP. Will it be steampunk clothing styles, by chance? Or will it be Pro-Feminist Masculism? I don’t know, because the man hasn’t even had a chance to stretch his legs before people start complaining that he’s crowding.

  3. This is fantastic news. I had written GMP off after the Hugo nonsense. I don’t think you could have picked a better person.

  4. “The Good Men Project website currently gets 1.3 million pageviews per month…”

Is that include REAL page views or that annoying REFRESH feature that you employ?
