Jamie Reidy applauds the choice of Ashton Kutcher to play Steve Jobs.
Kudos to “Entertainment Weekly’s” Sandra Gonzalez for this great opening line:
In what appears NOT to be an April Fool’s Day joke, Ashton Kutcher is set to play Steve Jobs in an upcoming indie pic from Swing Vote director Joshua Michael Stern, EW confirms.
I am glad she avoided the easy “Punk’d” joke.
This casting announcement surprised me, mostly because Kutcher isn’t known for his dramatic roles. That is because he hasn’t, uh, played many. A quick tour through his IMDB page shows that the actor, whose career skyrocketed on “That 70s Show,” has had sizable parts in two dramas: THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT and THE GUARDIAN; plus another in BOBBY.
I’m not counting AS out, though. After all, nobody thought he could be a successful TV producer, either. He studied engineering in college, and has certainly constructed a damn impressive career in fickle Hollywood. Ashton made everybody think he really was an idiot like Kelso or the guy in DUDE, WHERE’S MY CAR?
I think Ashton is gonna make Steve Jobs proud.
What do you think? If you disagree, what actor would you pick to play the Apple founder?

Kutcher is a very good actor. I’m glad to see he’s getting a role he’ll be able to perform in.
Don’t forget his serious role in the movie where he played the sex-toy to Anne Heche…
He was actually okay and moderately disturbing in that.
