During an interview with Keisha Dutes, Schwyzer discusses the reasons why dad’s stop showing affection to their daughters after they start growing boobs and how it impacts the young girl’s body image.
On the topic of the responsibilities of men, he responds, “Just because we have testosterone in our blood stream, doesn’t mean that we can’t be consistent loving men.”
Schwyzer also tackles the myths of same sex parenting, “Gay men and lesbians are very very aware that they need to have the other sex in their child’s life.”

I know I’m picking out one little quote here, but I have to take issue with the whole “just because we have testosterone” phrasing. With very few exceptions, EVERYONE has testosterone in his or her bloodstream. The difference in the amount of testosterone between men and women is relative, not that men have it and women don’t. Testosterone is not poison, and it’s not some quirk of being male. If we are supposed to be suspicious of everyone who has that hormone, then we need to be suspicious of just about everyone!
RE same sex parenting: children need both a mother and a father. A male figure doesn’t replace a father nor does a female figure replace a mother.
