For example, the claim that “these companies” primarily avoided taxes through foreign tax shelters is demonstrably false. One of the companies described above is Google. A 2-second internet search reveals that Google’s primary method of tax avoidance is actually racking up green energy credits: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-07-08/google-profits-from-tax-credit-to-boost-750-million-energy-plan.html If you offer companies tax breaks for clean energy investment, and then they make those clean energy investments in order to take advantage of the tax break…wasn’t that the point in the first place?
