Joanna Schroeder wonders what the latest absurd lawsuit against the Kardashian family and Kanye West says about where we’re headed as a society.
Outside of having a ton of respect for Kanye for his musical talent, I honestly don’t give a crap about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. I don’t know any of the rumors about them, and frankly I don’t care about the rumors about them. I don’t assume the rumors are true or untrue, it simply doesn’t matter.
But members of al-Qaeda?!
Newser.com synopsized this ridiculous story:
Jonathan Lee Riches—who, you will certainly not be surprised to hear, holds the Guinness World Record for “World’s Most Litigious Man”—also names Kardashian’s sisters, mom, and stepdad in the suit. He claims he “stumbled upon” the family in West Virginia earlier this month at an “al-Qaeda secret training camp.”
Did you know that Kim Kardashian’s stepfather is Bruce Jenner, the famous Olympian?
Let’s just assume for a moment that Riches did see the Kardashians and Kanye at an al-Qaeda training camp in West Virginia (West Virginia?!)… Umm, wouldn’t that imply that Riches himself was also at the camp?
I’m getting ahead of myself here in assuming logic plays any part in this conversation.
AllHipHop.com has a copy of the suit Riches filed, and here’s a list of the Kardashians and Kanye’s offenses:
- Bruce Jenner sold American secrets to al-Qaeda during the Berlin 1973 Olympics
- Kanye performed a concert for al-Qaeda and then…
- Fired an AK-47 in the air
- KK has been modeling part-time for Cat Stevens (Modeling what? Guitars?)
- Khloe Kardasian has been cheating on Lamar Odom (her husband) with Zacarias Moussoui (wow!)
- KK and Kanye used shovels to “frack” in order to create a WMD.
I don’t mean to make fun of someone whom I assume is a mentally-unstable man, but I sorta see this as an exaggeration of what we do as a society with both fame and litigation… It seems to be our right as Americans to pursue fame and notoriety, and one of the best ways to do so is to glom onto someone who has already earned their own fame. Truth is irrelevant, and headlines become like a religion.
And this litigious society… God help us. How is a lawsuit like this even legal? I suppose the Kardashians, Jenner and West could counter sue for defamation or libel, but it’s probably a massive waste of time.
What do you think of the lawsuit being brought by Riches? How does this represent our world? Will anyone believe it?
Or is it just a one-off by an entertaining, but unstable, man?

Al Qaeda would be more likely to behead all three of these people for infidel moral turpitude and mental defectiveness. Kanye, the man who rudely stepped all over Taylor Swift’s big moment at the Grammys, the man President Obama called “a jackass.”
It’s more of a reflection of the state of mental care or lack of, and the question revisited of “when should society step in and help the mentally challenged or helpless.
For litigation it might be good to revisit the McDonald’s hot coffee case. Look at what really happened, how the legal system got it right and wrong, and why the media spun it the way they did. That might better tell you where our society is right now.
