Have you seen the new Weight Watchers ad? It’s set to premier on television on April 4th, but you can get a sneak peek at it on YouTube right now.
Apparently Charles Barkley is so proud of his new figure after losing more than 40 pounds, that he put on a dress ala Jennifer Hudson and flaunted his wares for the weight-loss company’s new commercial.
What do you think? Is it cool that Sir Charles is secure enough in himself to dress like a lady, or is this a cross-dressing pantomime that ultimately damages the LGBT community?
And how about pizza and steak as “man food”?
Check out the new Weight Watchers ad on YouTube now and let us know what you think.

What’s with the rice boobs? Why not just be a guy… in a dress.
I gotta second that. When I worked in styling/wardrobe those things were called “chicken cutlets”…
And I’ll third it.
charles’ face is ‘passable’. it looks like the makeup artists made the common flaw of overdefining his eyebrows. the top half of the dress works well on his body, but the rising hemline at the bottom doesnt work at all – the hem of the front should have been like the back.
the heels are truly foul, ugly, too low and dont work with his calves at all – given the calve area a frumpy appearance
Is it cool that Sir Charles is secure enough in himself to dress like a lady,
of course it is cool. we are the men, and we can wear whatever we want. just like women do
or is this a cross-dressing pantomime that ultimately damages the LGBT community?
it could, but probably not. i saw the ad as harmless fun, i felt it did little to reinforce the already strong figure-of-fun position that male crossdresser and transwomen hold (i suspect the public still barely sees any difference between the two) in the public consciousness. however im a crossdresser, id defer to a transwoman’s opinion on this, as those gloriously brave women bear more risk than i do
the man food stuff *shrugs
More “Too Wong Foo” than “Priscilla.” Not to be taken seriously. Neither is the diet industry. But you know how I feel about that.
Oh god! Too Wong Foo! Thanks for reminding me of the hour and a half of my life I’ll never get back.
I’m wondering if this does any good in terms of getting guys to recognize that Weight Watchers is not just for women. One thing that helps people see that they can do something is to see people like themselves doing it. Honestly when I looked at this I really didn’t get the feeling of, “Wow he’s a guy just like me and he’s using Weight Watchers.” but rather, “He’s copying an ad that a woman did for Weight Watchers to try to tell guys its not just for women?”
TB asks above why can’t he be just a guy in a dress. I think that’s a good point and that would do a lot more towards inspiring guys to use WW but I think this ad is more likely an effort to say that in order to inspire guys to use WW Barkley had to dress up “like a woman”. And more than likely the ad will get spun that way as well.
