Late last night, as Newark Mayor Cory Booker was returning from a TV interview, he saw smoke coming from the second floor of the building next to his home.
According to Politico.com,
“I just grabbed her and whipped her out of the bed,” Booker said of a building resident in his recounting of the fire.
Booker was taken to a hospital Thursday night to be treated for smoke inhalation and second-degree burns on his hand. The woman he pulled out of the house was in stable condition and his security guards, who helped other residents get out of the building, were also taken to the hospital.
…
“I suddenly had the realization that I can’t find this woman.” Booker said. “I look behind me and see the flames and I think “I’m not going to get out of here. Suddenly I was at peace with the fact that I was going to jump out the window.”
Fortunately, Booker was able to locate the woman and they both got to safety. Booker was treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation.
In true heroic fashion, Booker also tweeted thanks to Det. Alex Rodriguez for getting others safely out of the building.
What do you think? Is Cory Booker an exceptionally good man, or is this something most people would do to save another human being?

PUBLISHER’S NOTE: At the end of 2010, we ran a series on “The Top 10 Good Men Politicians”, including Cory Booker as one of the top ten.
What do you think? Is Cory Booker an exceptionally good man, or is this something most people would do to save another human being?
I say exceptional. It was a situation that a lot of people would be fearful about but he faced it and went in.
Or just bait the so called naysayers and then get all up in arms when they actually show up…
Seriously? Cory Booker might be the most sincere politician I have around know of. From his willingness to shovel snow during blizzards to saving this woman from a fire. Amazing. He goes above and beyond the call of duty of not just being Newark’s mayor but a good man as well.
Shawn, I think we all agree with you. Cory is definitely the Good Man of the month in my eyes.
Update: At first they thought Cory lost his hearing in the fire, but as it turns out he just can’t hear us over the sound of his gigantic brass balls ringing.
I have to say, I’m shocked none of the GMP ‘nattering naysayers of negativism’ comment squad has swarmed this story to warn everyone that the Mayor is going to be charged with rape for yanking the victim out of her bed.
Okay, Cory Booker and Ryan Gosling have to team up and become crime fighting super heroes. Working on the screenplay right now. Who wants to buy the movie rights from me?
I know, right?!
I would SO see that movie.
We need to start a Cory Booker meme like Ryan Gosling’s “Hey Girl”… Let’s brainstorm, Cornelius.
Or does it exist?

OMG Corn that is too damn funny.
I love that America loves a hero!
