I’ve got tattoos on the brain, and it’s only partly Joanna’s fault. Less than an hour ago I was at the tattoo parlour getting my eighth tattoo. It’s also my biggest, pretty much covering the inside of my forearm. And even though my arm is a bit sore right now, I love it.
So any of you have any tattoos? If you’ve got multiple tattoos, do you have a favourite?
Any tattoos you regret?
And good stories about getting a tattoo?
If you don’t have a tattoo, why not? Religious reasons? Fear of the pain? The cost? Can’t decide what to get?
Any tattoos you want to get, but haven’t?
“I assert that, because every human specimen who is not an identical twin is already phenotypically and genetically unique right out of the box, clothing (and tattoos) serves only to mask one’s natural differences with a display of allegiance, homage, and conformity to the group with which the putative rugged individualist wishes to identify. This is as true of soccer moms as it is of bod-mod chicks. A tattoo doesn’t make you an iconoclast, it makes you one of those people with a tattoo.” – Twisty at I Blame The Patriarchy Sheila Jefferys has excellent analysis on body mod culture… Read more »
A good friend of mine (the I spoke of in “This Little Light of Mine” here during the platonic female friend series) gave me what I think was good advice on a tattoo. Think about what you want for a LONG time, years even. If that thought/idea stays on your mind for years then go for it. This gives you a lot of time to think about whether you really want it permanently attached to you or if you are making a spur of the moment choice that could haunt you for years. In that light I’ve had a specific… Read more »
Tattoos are individual forms of self-expression and I have no issue with anyone who gets one. Anyone interested in a modeling career, however, should be aware that each tattoo will cost $20,000 per year in lost opportunities.
Is that true for all tattoos in general, or are more normative tattoos acceptable? Like, a woman with a tattoo on the small of her back or whatever, would that be less problematic? Or a man with a “tribal” band around his bicep…would that be acceptable? I’m just curious. I’m really not planning on going into modelling. 😉
Check the forum on ModelMayhem.com for the tattoo discussions. (I can’t link directly to it from here.)
I have a couple of tattoos. I’m currently working on finishing my sleeves (Marvel superheroes&villains) but my artist is a jerk and keeps doing this selfish thing where she flies around the world doing guest spots at studios in lots of different countries, learning new techniques and styles and generally furthering her career. How dare she. Anyway because of that it’s hard to get hold of her when she’s in the country and unless she comes specifically to my city (which she hasn’t for a while) it’s difficult for me to get the time off work to go see her.… Read more »
Nice tattoo. I have seven myself and want more (all my current ones are quite small) but I have a deal with my mother that I won’t get any that would be visible with clothing on until I leave her house.
Honestly, I think tats are tacky. Also I like the way my body is now, but that’s just for me.
Oh, and tattoos on women are sexy.
My first tattoo (which is my only tattoo, so far) is a spider — on my hand. I love it! I love spiders, and I plan on getting more spiders, as well as other things. I’ll never regret putting this little on my hand. The first question I get from people, before, “Did it hurt?” is actually, “Why did you get a spider on your hand?” In addition to the fact that I love spiders, I put it on my hand, because I’ve been picking up and HANDling them all my life. I relate to spiders. They’re misunderstood and underrated… Read more »
Yeah so far all of my tattoos have some sort of personal meaning to me, which I like. I figure even if I get tired of the designs themselves, or if they fade or get a bit disfigured, they’ll at least still have meaning to me.
“until neither the Plain nor the Star-Bellies knew
whether this one was that one… or that one was this one
or which one was what one… or what one was who.” 🙂
I’ve got one, I hope to get more in the future. My current one is on my right shoulder. It’s a red bird whose wings stretch out onto the edges of my arm. I love it. I always knew I wanted a tattoo, but it wasn’t until I got a henna bird on my shoulder that I knew I wanted it permanently.
Yeah I started out with henna and like, just drawing stuff on my arms. It’s a gateway tattoo. lol. 😉
Nice tattoo! I’ve a tattoo in the pipeline that has been a long time coming – its a black and grey full sleeve (I have an all or nothing dimension to my personality). The style is Japanese, with an emphasis on shading, but not so traditional as to exclude blending it with other styles, it has some cryptic parts and sigils of my own, flowers … I cannot find anyone on this country that I’d want to do it, so I’ll likely end up traveling to get it done, aside from I have a couple of body piercings.
Thanks! Well, I say thanks, but really all I did was sit still for a few hours. My tattoo artist came up with the design. 🙂
Also, your design sounds pretty awesome. Best of luck finding someone who you want to do it for you.
