Tough call. Johnny Depp is cool, so is Humphrey Bogart. Daniel Craig is amazing too. Hmmmm, so many possibilities….
Jack Lemmon in Some Like It Hot? I guess that’s a supporting role.
Alan Rickman in anything.
Depp as Jack Sparrow, likely. So funny. Clooney in pretty much anything, but I loved Michael Clayton so very much.
Are we just talking about the actor or a role that they played?
Either way my answers would be Morgan Freeman and Ian McKellen.
Yeah, it’s confusingly phrased. Why would I want to be an actor while he portrayed a role for a day? Or if it’s not while portraying a role, why would I think I know enough about any actor’s off-set life to pick a specific day I’d want to be him? But that’s my picky logical self getting hung up on the phrasing. If I just answer like everyone else, I suppose I’d go with Mark Harmon in “Worth Winning”.
The question isn’t really “in what role” it’s more “in what era”, if you read it. No mention of characters at all in the question.
I like the idea of “in what role” too, though…
Looking at the picture, I think I’d like to play either Butch or Sundance… But I think I’d most like to be Paul Newman… Seems like he had a really excellent life.
Or even thinking about what lead characters… Obviously being Jack Sparrow would suck. I mean, you’re an alcoholic whom almost nobody likes, you’re on a ship all day (barf) and you never shower? But being Bradley Cooper’s character in The Hangover would be fun, I mean, once you found your friend and he was alive… What an adventure.
I’m nitpicking, I know, but since linguistic nitpicking can be fun (to a logical, writer type who majored in linguistics)…
The question said “for a day” and in the list of examples, included Jack Nicholson in “The Shining”. That does tend to steer the intended meaning of the question toward choosing particular role, not an era or catalogue of characters over the course of a career.
Since we’re dueling over wording and logic, I hereby switch my choice to Cary Elwes in “The Princess Bride”.
Fair enough if we are talking about era then let me get specific.
Morgan Freeman from the late 80s (Lean on Me era)
Ian McKellen from early 2000s (I’m thinking a blend of Gandalf and Magneto)
Viggo Mortenson in “Eastern Promises” and “A Dangerous Method”….
Michael Fassbender in “A Dangerous Method”…
Gary Sinise in “Forrest Gump” (actually, any movie) and CSI
William Peterson in CSI…and “To Live and Die in LA”…
Matthew Broderick in The Producers. Stage or Movie, I dont care
