We had a pretty exciting night at Wrigley Field here in Chicago last night… Cubs vs Mets on a warm perfect night.
It made me think about all the exciting games and sporting events I’ve seen in my life.
How about you? What was the most exciting sporting event or game you’ve ever seen? Is there one you missed that you wished you hadn’t?
Game 4 of the 2001 World Series. It was about 6 weeks after 9/11, and the games in NY were simply ELECTRIC. Game 4 involved a dramatic late inning come back by the Yankees (my favorite team) with a walk off home run by Derek Jeter just after midnight Oct 31 giving rise to the nickname Mr. November as his actual hit happened on Nov 1. I am a carnage freak for some reason, any event where there are spectacular crashs, the high speed boat races where the boat literally just explodes as it hits the water is extroardinary. Problem is, people are hurt and die in this :(. Need robots there instead so they can push the limits past human body capacity, like high G turning pylon racing via remote control or something. I was working as an AP stringer in 1992 when I was assigned to cover the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals in the Spectrum in Philadelphia. I got on the phone with my boss and told him “I just watched history. Make sure that gets put in the article”.
I’m not sure if it was the most exciting game ever but Game 3 of the Women’s College World Series kept me up until 1 a.m. in the middle of a work week.
In case, you’re in the (depressing) majority who don’t watch fastpitch softball, the Crimson Tide won. The first world series win by the UofAlabama softball team. The first win by an SEC team. The second win by a team east of the Missouri. Pretty exciting and historic.
