The new laws makes employment discrimination against gender or sexual orientation illegal and extends domestic violence laws to gay couples.
Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla was pleased to sign a bill this week that outlaws employment discrimination in regards to gender or sexual orientation. The bill originally extended to other forms of discrimination, such as in commercial transactions, property rentals, and transportation, but the bill was protested by conservative religious groups.
Padilla himself says that he was doing his Christian duty by signing the bill, congratulating all those who helped it pass.
Another bill extended domestic violence laws to gay couples, providing them protection under the law that they previously lacked.
Though inaugurated just six months ago, Padilla has already made huge strides to end illegal exports and to control government spending to reduce the territory’s deficit.

Thank you so much for your information regarding domestic violence in Puerto Rico. In the state of Illinois domestic violence is a serious crime.
