Ice cream? Sure. I dig it. Not enough to fill my freezer with it, but after seeing this post? I’m ready right now to race out the door and stock my icebox with pints of ‘Appley Ever After’, now that Ben & Jerry’s has renamed their popular flavor in honor of gay marriage.
Ben & Jerry’s is renaming its Oh My! Apple Pie ice-cream to ‘Apple-y Ever After’ in the UK, in support of proposed government legalization of gay marriage. It has also redesigned the product’s packaging with a new motif of two grooms atop a wedding cake. The move echoes its 2009 effort in the US, when it renamed Chubby Hubby to ‘Hubby Hubby’ to celebrate gay marriage legalization in its home state of Vermont.
I would have to fly all the way to London though. Not a bad idea! When marketing meets social justice meets me happily (I mean ‘appley!) looking for a passport and an ice cream scoop, you know you are onto something!
Humans should have the rights to love and be loved, partner and connect, be viewed as partners by the law and state. They also should have amazing companies to support.
Ben & Jerry’s, well done!!!! Social Justice is a flavor I’ll never get sick of!
Good for them 🙂 Now I have an excuse to buy junk food.
This kindof makes up for the “Black and tan” fiasco.
Alright somehow I missed that black and tan incident…they making beer flavoured ice cream now? 🙂
Yeah, they released it for patrick’s day. Except that they didn’t realise that for a whole generation of Irish people the “Black and tans” refers solely to an organisation of British auxiliary troops who killed and tortured a whole lot of civilians while fighting the IRB. Needless to say it was pulled.
The notion of any corporation entertaining the thought of social responsibility is enough to garner my support.
I loves me some Ben & Jerry’s.
+1 Julie
I will buy a Ben & Jerry’s “Appley Every After” tonight to honour the company that (apparently) cares about something other than the bottom line.
