Suck It, Simon! Overweight Teen Dazzles on “Britain’s Got Talent”

Jamie Reidy comments on another stunning vocal performance that shatters superficial judgments.

Like Simon Cowell and a lot of the crowd members, I am a superficial jackass. I judged Jonathan Antoine as soon as I saw him waddle on stage.

“He’s a fatter version of the kid in that Cher movie MASK,” I thought.  ”Beauty & The Beast.”

I braced myself for him to flop on TV.

Apparently, Simon and I learned nothing from Susan Boyle’s eye-opening performance three years ago. Well, I guess I can’t call it “eye-opening” since mine obviously remained closed to the fact that a person’s appearance has nothing to do with his or her vocal abilities.

Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion should be proud of this teenage duo.

We should all be lucky enough to have a friend and champion like Charlotte. And kudos to their school district for not cutting funds for the Arts, otherwise a savvy music teacher would never have connected these two singers.

Brah-vo, Jonathan! Thanks for reminding me I’ve got a long way to go in terms of being a Good Man.

  1. Excellent voice, and Simon is a real…..%*$). Love how Jon stuck up for her, the man has my respect.

  2. William Hancox says:

Seems like a kid with his head on his shoulders too. Just a shame he was found on a program like this.
