“Thanks for Arresting Me!” DUI Convict Reunites with Cop

Jamie Reidy comments on a rare story: a perp thanking his arresting officer for sending him to jail.

As CNN’s Todd Andrews reports, Reality TV producer Mark Allen was sober when he met Omaha police officer Chuck Matson this time, unlike their first meeting when the latter arrested the former for drunk driving. An emotional Allen told the retired policeman:

“I’ve wanted to thank you for so long… you absolutely saved my life.”

It was Allen’s third DUI. The producer of such shows as “Super Nanny” says it forced him to confront his own reality.

“Before I got stopped that night, I didn’t know how to stop drinking…It was the first time in my life that I started listening and thinking I might have a problem.”

Sounds like Officer Matson saved more than Mark Allen’s life that night; he probably spared some innocent victims, too.

GMP readers, have you heard of similar reuniting stories?
