Did you know that there are more than 783 million people world-wide who do not have access to clean water? Or that 37% don’t have access to sanitation facilities?

Inventor Dean Kamen, the man behind the Segway, has figured out a way to do something to change those numbers drastically. His recent invention, called the Slingshot, could potentially save millions of lives by giving people in developing nations access to safe, clean, disease free water.
The device, which Kamen designed based on another of his inventions, an in-home dialysis machine, can take any contaminated water and make it safe to drink. The Slingshot boils the water “like the sun does,” and then condenses the steam, leaving any and all pathogens behind, producing the “purest water int he world.”
Paul Lazarus directed this documentary short, which features Kamen explaining the dangers of waterborn illness and how the Slingshot works, which won third place in GE’s Focus Forward Film Festival.
