  1. He didn’t just pass away; he committed suicide. Something’s gotta give; ex football players are killing themselves in droves. How many deaths will it take til we know that too many people have died?

    • Joanna Schroeder says:

Yeah, we put this up before there was conclusive evidence that he had in fact killed himself. Of course there won’t be a conclusion about how he died until an autopsy and investigation, but it does seem that way right now.

I think you are EXACTLY right about these men sacrificing themselves for this sport. I was talking to the editors today about how I think we need to talk more about how “disposable” these men are. We laud them, make them our heroes, but we don’t mind letting them perform a job that we are learning more and more causes brain damage.

If my sons wanted to play football, honestly, I don’t know what I would do. I try not to prevent anything, but on the other hand, isn’t it my job to protect them? I make them wear helmets on bikes and skateboards to prevent head injuries… Why is this different? These helmets just aren’t protecting these men enough.

I heard somewhere unofficial today (haven’t had time to research) that the life expectancy of a pro-football player is between 55-59 years?! It goes down the more seasons they’ve played?

      Heartbreaking.

  2. I’m really impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout to your weblog. Is that this a paid subject matter or did you modify it your self? Either way keep up the excellent high quality writing, it is uncommon to look a nice weblog like this one nowadays..
