CCOKC – Child Celebrities Opposing Kirk Cameron – watch more funny videos

Like many, I was a bit critical of Kirk Cameron’s statement that homosexuality is “unnatural” and “destructive to the foundations of civilization,” a few weeks back, writing about it here and here. One of my points was that Kirk’s career in film & TV was in no small part aided & abetted by the countless gay members of the Hollywood community, a point that is hilariously captured and taken the the nth degree in the above video, by a group calling themselves Child Celebrities Opposing Kirk Cameron (CCOKC).

What do you think? Do you side with the CCOKCs?

Kirk is right about the founders of this country. It says right there in the Declaration of Independence “all heterosexual men are created equal.” It…oh…well, I’ll be darned, I just looked and it doesn’t say that. I must have read into it what I wanted to read into it. That happens, sometimes, reading into the past what you want to read into the past.

Actually, I do think we should take Mr. Cameron at his word in one sense. He sounds like he really wants to save Western civilization from the things that have destroyed civilizations in the past. He wants us to learn from the historical record in order to prevent similar collapses in the future. A very noble cause, one that I applaud him for. In fact, I invite him to join me in the fight to save civilization.

Great, now let’s address what appear to be the biggest culprits in the decline and fall of powerful, imperial civilizations:

    1. Overconsumption of scarce resources.
    2. Ecological devastation.
    3. Strategic overstretch.
    4. Inability to adapt to changing circumstances.

So, Mr. Cameron, please join me in trying to save the environment. Please help me stop the pernicious influence of consumerism before it is too late. Stand with me in protest against unwinnable and exhausting wars overseas. Help me encourage our political system to resist the influence of narrow-minded, regressive ideologies. You know, if you want to save “civilization.”

Edward Gibbon, in his extensive analysis of the fall of the Roman Empire, suggested that Christianity was partly responsible for the fall of the western empire. Mr. Cameron is right – perhaps we should listen to the wisdom of the ages when it comes to the fall of great civilizations….
