The Associated Press/Newser is telling the story of a heroic Coney Island bus driver who caught a 7 year-old Autistic girl after she fell from a 3rd story window-mounted air conditioning unit.
“I just prayed that I’d catch her,” Stephen St. Bernard recalled after rescuing the child yesterday. He did. St. Bernard said he was walking home from work when he observed a commotion outside the Coney Island housing complex.
St. Bernard sustained a shoulder injury that was later treated, and is being hailed as a hero.
Good man, Stephen!
Watch video of the catch above, via New York Post. (Hint: it takes a moment for the video to load.)
A bona fide hero, a step up in a pinch, gut check, sphincter check time mensch.
NYMTA probably suspends him for engaging in heroics while in uniform.
Pretty awesome stuff, hope he heals up good.
