Video: Watch Record-Setting Surfer Drop Into 78-foot Rogue Wave

Garrett McNamara was finally honored with the title of surfing the biggest wave recorded 78 feet!

After months of debate about whether the “rogue wave” he surfed off the coast of Portugal in November was truly the biggest ever recorded to have been surfed, he was finally given the title by Guinness Book of World Records this week.

Best part? We have an excuse to show you the footage, which is both beautiful and terrifying at the same time.

Two videos:

The first is the basic footage of the wave as McNamara drops in.

The second is the longer cut, where you can see the gorgeous skyline of the Portuguese seaside town, as well as watch the set roll in. It has a hard-to hear interview at the end, too.
