Garrett McNamara was finally honored with the title of surfing the biggest wave recorded 78 feet!
After months of debate about whether the “rogue wave” he surfed off the coast of Portugal in November was truly the biggest ever recorded to have been surfed, he was finally given the title by Guinness Book of World Records this week.
Best part? We have an excuse to show you the footage, which is both beautiful and terrifying at the same time.

78 feet ! Wouldn’t falling off the face of that wave be the equivalent to falling nearly 8 stories onto concrete. What a stud! This seems so deadly. I find it so ironic that the same surfer that accomplished surfing the 78 foot wave that day was the same guy to save the day in rescuing a drowning surfer. (With the waves that day the drowning surfer probably fell from a few stories high and lost her breath as she dunked into the surging surf only to be saved by the new record holder for the biggest wave ever surfed… Read more »
