Have you seen this new Vaseline MEN commercial with former New York Giant defensive lineman Michael Strahan and the “human flag” guy? If you have, then, like me, you might be wondering about the people at Vaseline and the wisdom behind marketing a hand lotion to men by showing them how it doesn’t slide on poles. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I thought that pole slide-ability is the very basis of the relationship between men and hand lotion.

But they may actually be on to something. Because like a lot of men, I’ve only used hand lotion as directed a couple of times in my life. I so dislike that lotion-y feeling that for years I didn’t even use suntan lotion, only because that slimy-hand feeling is so uncomfortable. These days I type for a living, so I don’t have the dry, calloused man-hands I once had. But in the event that I did have manly hands, this new Vaseline MEN would be the hand lotion I’d try, since, according to the commercial, it’s totally absorbed in 15 seconds.

I’m guessing that you could probably use it for that other thing, too—but I can’t speak for the people at Vaseline on that.
