‘World’s Best Father’ Pokes Fun at Stereotypes of Dads

When Dave Engledow started photographing is daughter, Alice Bee, in her infancy, he had no vision for where the photos would lead… But in experimenting with comping images he discovered that creating funny and absurd photos was a great way to play with his worst fears surrounding becoming a father.

In the photo series, which can be seen here on his Kickstarter page, Dave does every single thing you’re not supposed to do with a baby—ad absurdum—and plays with stereotypes of the slacker dad and boozy mom. The photos are as lovely as they are funny, and often require a moment or two of examination to find all the gags he’s set up… And it doesn’t hurt that Alice Bee is simply adorable.

Dave says, “The character I portray in this series is intended to be a parody of the father I hope I never become- distracted, self-absorbed, neglectful, clueless or even overbearing.”

Also be sure to catch the last few minutes of the video where he shows a behind-the-scenes peek at how he creates the photos.

What do you think of Dave Engledow’s photos? Have you ever felt like one of these dads, or had these sorts of fears?

Can’t believe this has no comments yet. I loved it! “Earnest” is the best word I can think of to sum it up. All of the images are great but my favorite has to be the blender.

I saw them on NBC in the AM (Matt Lauer’s show)….adorable!
