Gil Flores shares his thoughts on the Christmas season and what the way of Jesus shows us about meekness.
If you’re like Ricky Bobby, you might prefer “Lord baby Jesus” year-round, but for most of us this is the season when we spend the most time reflecting on the Incarnation and what it means for those of us seeking to follow God in the Jesus way.
My friend Gil Flores recently posted this video reflection in which he asks whether meekness really means weakness. I love what Gil says:
“I think that, for Americans, when we think of meekness, we think of weakness automatically. … The way of Jesus shows us that meekness is not weakness. Meekness is simply authority used in a quiet way. If we have any authority, as Christians, let us remember to use it in that quiet way of Jesus and not for the use of the empire.”
What do you think of Gil’s reflection on Christmas and America’s definition of meekness?
