Don't call it a comeback — one of the iconic characters of Black film will soon shine on cineplex screens once again.
Spike Lee is reprising his iconic character Mookie (from Do The Right Thing) for a forthcoming film entilted Red Hook Summer, which premieres at the Sundance Film Festival on Jan. 22.
The movie stars Jules Brown, Toni Lysaith, Nate Parker, James Ransone, Keke Palmer and Thomas Jefferson Byrd, and features the diverse group of characters sweating it out during a summer in Brooklyn. The film follows the main character, Flik, who is sent to spend the summer with his grandfather in Brooklyn at a housing project called Red Hook.
Lee is going to direct as well, so this should have a great sense of continuity from the original film in a thematic departure for the legendary film maker.
