Marquis Evans has become something of celebrity in New York and the Hudson Valley over the last few years. A partner in the music and party promotion company Superior Sounds, there isn’t a fundraiser or non-profit event Evans (aka Biscuit TMS) hasn’t coordinated over the last couple years. This winter he’s taking the company to south Florida (Ft Lauderdale and Miami). TGMP caught up with the young entrepreneur.
How did you get involved with Superior Sounds?
Essentially I was throwing one of my infamous house parties a little over 5 years ago. The DJ that I had later emailed me on “myspace” saying he liked my personality and thought I’d be a good fit in his company and offered me a position. Back then I was only thinking I’d be an assistant of sorts until John, the owner later asked me to run the office aspect of the company since he saw the passion I had for doing all that we do and it’s just kind of blossomed since then.
What makes you stick out from your competitors?
I guess technically we were a Mobile DJ company from the start but now we do much more than back then. What sets us a part from the other mobile DJ’s is that we also offer our services to other DJ’s that don’t have the equipment that we do, or to the traveling DJ for events outside of their travel zone that can’t or don’t want to bring their equipment as far as we can with our 300+ mile radius. There may be but so far I haven’t heard of a Mobile DJ company providing concert type sound engineers and equipment for festival, fundraisers, and live bands. Usually a high priced sound company comes in that is only a sound company.
We like to give back to various communities, more so the gay community and HIV being one of our biggest struggles we like to do as much as we can for the organizations that help those in need that are diagnosed with HIV.
