A humble toast: Scott Behson celebrates 10 years of marriage.
___
Dearly Gathered:
Ten years ago, I married Amy Griffin. The best decision I ever made.
Amy has brought so much joy and dust and clutter into my life, and given me the easy joy of knowing I am truly loved. If all I had taken from of our marriage was to be with Amy, I would have considered myself insanely lucky. It would have been more than enough for me.
But by marrying Amy I received so much more.

Marriage is the opportunity to build a life with someone you love. Ten years ago, I knew nothing about Nyack, New York. But now we live here and have a home, neighborhood, community and village we love.
We have made so many great friends, and we are so happy you could be here with us today. Part of why we wanted to celebrate here with all our local friends—our 8-year old friends very much included!—is that you have all added so much to our lives over these past 10 years. Had I only gotten a full life in Nyack out of our marriage, I would have considered myself insanely lucky. It would have been more than enough for me.
But by marrying Amy I received so much more.
When you marry someone, you join your family with theirs. And your spouse’s friends become your friends. And so, I not only married Amy but now also have her family and friends. Thank you for being here today to celebrate with us. If having you in my life would have been all I got out of our marriage, I would have considered myself insanely lucky. That would have been more than enough for me.
But, by marrying Amy I received so much more.
Of course, marrying Amy led to the greatest thing in my life—the best kid in the world—Nicholas Oakley Behson, who lights up my life and makes me so proud. In one Father’s Day card, my Star Wars addicted son wrote that “The galaxy is better with you and me, Dad.” I couldn’t agree more. If Nick was all I would have gotten out of our marriage, I would have considered myself insanely, incredibly, unbelievably, exceedingly, amazingly lucky. Being Nick’s dad would have been WAY more than enough for me.
But, lucky me.
Not only did I marry Amy Griffin 10 years ago, she has given me a life for which I am so very grateful. I’m so thrilled I get to spend my life with you! Thank you.
Let’s raise a toast to the best wife ever, Amy!

Thank you for the kind words. I’m a lucky guy. I worried that sharing this woiuld come off as braggy, that was not my intent. I was hoping to share my gratitude knowing that a lot of really happily married guys feel this way, too.
Beautiful, to the point of tears. You both seem very lucky to have each other.
Congratulations!
And thanks for putting it out there.
